A downloadable game for Windows

Swim Otter Swim is an infinite runner (or swimmer) game. You play as an Otter named Pearl, trying to swim as far as she can before colliding with too many water obstacles. Pick up coins and purchase upgrades, that allow you to make it further and find more collectibles. Pick up pictures while swimming, and purchase them at the shop to gather a gallery of nsfw images. The gallery is only accessible by paying 2.99, but everything else is free.

Images are unlocked by picking up the photo collectibles every 100m. Each collectible is unique, so if you pick up the same photo, you will not unlock a new image. There are two images that can be purchased with coins at the shop as well.

There will be a few small updates, although my focus will be focused on my new much, much larger game Pearl's Paradise (First playable demo will hopefully be released on the 6th of June.)

Simple Controls:
WASD - Move

This is a fun game for a few bucks, but there are a few things I wish were a bit different.

My issues I have involve what happens after Pearl slams face first into something.

When Pearl get hit, she jolts and her velocity changes. This change in direction almost always leads her into another obstacle.
I think it'd be nice if this was either toned down or completely removed.

Oh also on that note, I'll assume that the flashing effect that happens after Pearl runs into something is supposed to be temporary invincibility.
If it is, I think it should last a little bit longer. As of the point of writing this, I think it lasts just less than a second, and different obstacles can spawn as frequently as a second, meaning the safe period will always run out by the time the next obstacle has arrived.
I would personally make it last a second and a half, maybe even 2 seconds. (It could be fun to link this to an item?)

I think this is just my way of saying that the game may be a bit too hard. I'd rattle off the issues with game difficulty (responsiveness, speed, hitbox size), but everything I'd say has already been said, so I won't waste your time.

Other than that, it's fun, if not a bit frustrating at times.

I really like the idea and the art it nice.

But the up and down movement is waaay too unresponsive. I literally can't avoid enemies, if they spawn at the same altitude as the otter. I press up/down for over a second and I can only watch her slowly turn and slightly move up/down before she meets doom.

And if I wanted to collect coins above the surface of the water I would need to know that they are coming for about a second before they even appear on screen.

Edit:

Is it possible that the "coin check" for the shop currently checks [player_coins] > [price]? because at the moment it seems only to be possible to purchase clothing, if you have a greater amount than the price (doesn't seem to be possible, if you have the exact right amount of coins. For example for the Bikini bottom I needed 51)

Edit 2: Same is true for the 150 Coin Top.

Howdy, thanks for both the praise and the suggestions. A few others have suggested that I update the movement, so I'll make it a bit more responsive in a patch. Very likely the coin check is doing what you said, easy to miss. I'll make sure to fix that as well. I've also heard that slowing down the game a bit at the start should be done, so I'll do that too. I thought about adding an indicator for the photos beforehand, and might still do that if it's too hard to grab them, although doing so for the coins might be too much. I've been working on a much bigger game, but seeing that a few people have said similar things and they should all be quick, I'll start on a patch now and put it up tomorrow. Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

The game is pretty fun, but could do with more responsive up and down movement, and better jumping feel, at the very least it would be nice to be able to use double jump to leap out of the water without momentum

Thanks for the suggestion, I can make a small patch to make the movement a bit better soon.

The game idea is pretty fun, but there's a lot to improve still!

  • The game is too fast, it could start slow or slow a bit.
  • The hitbox is too big, i died a bunch of times because something hit my feet or not hit at all.
  • Could have upgrades, maybe even a air bubble to protect you (not only clothings)
  • i got 150 coins but i couldn't buy the bikini top.
  • The movement stress me a bit, it could be better and i wish i could have control of my movements.

Overall, it looks pretty good! i hope it can improve and get future updates!

Thanks for the suggestions! I can make a small patch soon. I'll look at making the movement a bit better, slowing the starting speed, and I'll look into why upgrades might not be working properly.

This looks like one of those mobile games

That is pretty much exactly what it is but without ads. And if you want to support me, you can also get a small gallery of images. The games I have made so far have been small projects to learn Unity, as I have previously used other game engines. I'd love feedback, but please remember this is a small project. I have started a MUCH bigger game, with a demo coming out in about a month.
